Kurdish Voices

      Dashne Morad was born on March 5,1989. She moved to Netherlands at the age of 9. She started off her career as a presenter on Kurdistan TV television program called 'No Control' and also had her own show called 'The Deshne Show' where she discussed issues like woman and relationships and subjects that were taboo in the Kurdish society.She went on to become a singer and released her first album 'Hela Hopa' on August 2009. Her second album 'Hom Sike Wawe'  released on July 2010. She has worked with Lebanese director Fadi Haddad. Her third album 'Firisti Mihreban' was released in 2011. She also presented another show named 'Shepolakany Zhian' on Kurdistan TV. She came back to Kurdistan after twelve years. Even though she has a nice voice some people in Suly don't like her because she's too outgoing and wears inappropriate clothes.Nonetheless, she's a very sweet lady.

When you arrive in Sulaimani and you ask people where you should go to enjoy your time with friends and family, they will most likely tell you to go to Chavy Land. Chavy Land is the biggest tourism project in the Kurdistan region and as a matter of fact the whole of Iraq. It's built on Goizha mountains and is about 750,000,000 square meters. The project consists of fifty types of games including mini markets, cabins, restaurants, museums, fountains, cottages, aqua park, and lots and lots of clear, green space to sit down and have a nice picnic.

Mulla Mustafa Barzani

                                       

              My lovely city was founded on November 14, 1784 by the Kurdish prince Ibrahim Pasha Baban who named it after his father Sulaiman Pasha. Sulaimani, which was once called Qalaciwalan, is surrounded by mountains such as Azmar, Goizha, Qaiwan, and Branan. I won't go into boring timelines and dates of wars but I will list some events and leaders in history that had a huge impact on Kurds. The Kurds have had quite a history with the Brits. On May,1919 Mahmud Barnji made the first rebellion against the British officers in Sulaimani and tried to declare independence for the Kurds. He succeeded but then got exiled. Another significant figure was Mulla Mustafa who was a Kurdish nationalist leader of Kurdsitan Democratic Party(KDP). He was made Minister of Defence and commander of the Kurdish army in the Republic of Mahabad. On June 1975, Jalal Talabani, a leading member of KDP, announced the establishment of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan(PUK). PUK and PDK have a lot of fights and many peshmergas die in these battles. Some years later Mulla Mustafa dies and his son, Massoud Barzani takes his place. On September 1998, Jalal Talabani and Massoud Barzani sign a peace agreement in Washington, but the government of the Kurdish region stays split. Even to this day, they might be smiling on TV and making agreements, but I believe they still hate each other and only agree to keep their own political party safe. Throughout history peshmergas have had the greatest roles and they're still the most respected in the land. They're the ones that have shed blood in battle for the sake of Kurdistan and for that we are forever grateful and to the families who have lost their sons or brothers we say 'Don't shed tears, for your son\brother etc have died in honor'. The mountains have been very helpful to the peshmergas, giving them good hiding places for tactics in battle. Women in the villages would make food for the peshmergas while they were at battle or coming through the way.
